The Manhunt series is a controversial stealth, survival horror, and third-person shooter video game series published by Rockstar Games, consisting of two titles: Manhunt (2003) and Manhunt 2 (2007). The first game was developed by Rockstar North and the second by Rockstar London with Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar Toronto respectively working on the PlayStation Portable and Wii versions of the game. Manhunt was released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows, and Manhunt 2 was released for Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Microsoft Windows.

Setting[]

The Manhunt series is set in the same fictional universe as Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series and the 2006 game Bully. Manhunt is set in Carcer City in the year 2003, while Manhunt 2 is set in Cottonmouth presumably in the year 2007, with flashback sequences in 2001.

History[]

Manhunt was released on November 18, 2003 for PlayStation 2 and April 20, 2004 for Xbox and Windows. Though it received positive reviews, especially for its violent nature and dark atmosphere, and won reversal accolades, the game was also highly controversial due to its level of graphic violence; the game was banned in many countries.

Manhunt 2 was released on October 29, 2007 for Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable, with the Windows version released on November 6, 2009. Reception to the game was mixed to positive, and the game was highly controversial, with the game having to be edited prior to release. The Windows version of the game, however, is unedited and unrated.

Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar Games, has denied it has plans to continue the series with a third entry.
