The 3D Universe rendition of Liberty City is the setting of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Advance and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, as well as playing a minor role in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The city is loosely based on New York City. The city's motto is "the worst place in America", due to the high crime rate in the city. In Grand Theft Auto IV, Liberty City is the largest city in the United States, having a population of about 8,363,710. The city is located in the Liberty State and it is also located close to Carcer City, the setting of Manhunt.
On the radio in Liberty City, it can be heard that Police Chief of Carcer City, Gary Schaffer was found not guilty for unknown charges after all the witnesses in the case disappeared.
Links with Carcer CityEdit
Because the Lips 106 Radio Station mentioned that Carcer City is nearby to Liberty City, the single way seen in the game to make a link to Carcer City are the tunnels from Shoreside Vale. Unfortunately, they can't be accessed in either of the Grand Theft Auto games, even in Liberty City Stories, since a blockade occupies the third tunnel.
However the tunnel going uphill and isn't solid, so it cannot be reached via the helicopter (only obtained from the missions which contains access for helicopters). Also, if the tunnels leads Liberty City with Carcer City, the tunnel at the entrance is written "Upstate". It is unknown why directions for Carcer City weren't at the entrance of the tunnels, normally mentioned as "nearby", probably because Carcer City doesn't exist in Grand Theft Auto III and Liberty City Stories as Manhunt is a continuity of GTA era.
An explanation is that Upstate is likely a district in Liberty State, probably where Carcer City is located. Another explanation is just that Rockstar forgot to put under the "Upstate" "Carcer City" indifferently if Carcer City doesn't exist in GTA LCS. Another explanation is that Upstate is probably a town which maybe is located between Liberty City and Carcer City. Another explanation is that Rockstar forgot that in their news segment is mentioned: ...In nearby Carcer City... and make a mistake to put "Upstate" instead "Carcer City" but it is strange because then the players think that in the beta version of GTA LCS, you can going to Carcer City, resulting that Rockstar must make again Carcer City and some places seen in Manhunt: Darkwoods Penitentiary, Carcer City Zoo, Carcer Point Station, Stockyard, Central, Carcer City Library etc, resulting in very hard work for Rockstar.
