Manhunt All Hoods Quotes

"Apparently, he's a murderer. Probably just some washed up junkie."
- a Hood, about Cash.

The Hoods are the first gang of Hunters that appear in Manhunt.

Description[]

The Hoods consist of a loose-knit group of common street thugs and hitmen for hire, and are the first group of gang James Earl Cash encounters. They are unruly and disorganized, purely in the hunt for financial gain. The Hoods wear dark non-descript street clothes, along with a variety of masks and hoods. Though at times they are unarmed, most of the Hoods are equipped with Blackjacks, Crowbars, and wooden Baseball Bats, but lack any firearms; Compared to later gangs such as the Skinz, Innocentz, Wardogs, and Smileys, the Hoods are rather basic with no quirks. Despite being the least organized gang in the game, they are just as aggressive as other Hunters when attacking Cash and a few members can be seen popping out of corners. Therefore, the Hoods are still rather dangerous.

Although the Hoods are working for Lionel Starkweather, many members of this gang appear to be unaware of the danger they are in from Cash's presence, being dismissive of him (calling him a dog, junkie, moron, freak, or "shitbag") and chatting noisily about women and cars. They are impatient and easily distracted, tending to patrol their turf alone. The Hoods also tend to be quite cowardly, as seen in Time 2 Die and when they are being knocked down by the player, begging for Cash not to kill them. Naturally, these Hunters' sloppy and reckless mannerisms make them easy pickings for Starkweather's snuff film, and thus, perfect first victims for the death row inmate.

Appearances[]

The Hoods are the first group of Hunters Cash must face off against. After Cash is sprung out of an abandoned shop by Starkweather, he makes his way through a desolate street in Carcer Mark under strict supervision of the Director. He picks off several Hoods members and breaks into the Carcer Mark Mall and dispatches the remaining hoods in the level.

After that, Cash escapes through the garbage chute of the mall and makes his way through the back alleys streets of the Hoods Turf while continuing to kill many Hoods. He breaks into a basement and kills a crowbar-wielding Hood in a padded bondage room to finish the scene.

Cash then makes his way to the Carcer City Library in the following scene. After breaking into the Library's cellar and killing several Hoods along the way, he is picked up by Cerberus and extracted from the Hoods Turf. The Hoods don't make any more appearances after the completion of that scene as they're wiped out, apart from one dead Hood found in a toilet stall in the mall murdered by the Innocentz. However, the Hoods have starring roles in three of the four bonus scenes (although those levels are not canon).

Mission Appearances: Born Again , Doorway into Hell, Road to Ruin, Hard as Nails, Brawl Game, Time 2 Die, and View of Innocence.

Assassins For Hire[]

A Hood: "You may have seen our tags around Carcer City, that's right the Hoods... your friendly neighborhood thugs. You need to pull a hospital job on somebody, got an old teacher that still pisses you off after all these years, did a cop actually give you a parking ticket? Give my associates and me a call and we will personally fix any problems you may have."

Trivia[]

  • Due to them having more appearances in the game than all other groups of Hunters and are found as Easter Eggs in the Grand Theft Auto series, the Hoods are arguably the most recognized gang in Manhunt.
  • It has been widely believed within the Manhunt community that some of the Hoods members were off duty Cops. While this may be true based on the state of the Carcer City Police Department, it can only be left up to speculation of the player, due to it never being mentioned in any official material. On the contrary, it should also be noted one of the Hoods wears a jacket with markings pertaining that he has already killed three police officers.
  • The three scenes the Hoods appear in, as well as the gang itself, as suggested in the game as well as being the first Hunters for Cash intended by Starkweather, are designed for training the player for the upcoming gangs that appear later in Manhunt.
  • In the main menu screen of the game, a Hoods member can be seen wielding a Knife. This does not occur in any of the scenes they appear in, and the first gang to have this weapon are the Skinz.
  • At the Las Venturas and San Ferrio police stations in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, several noticeboards containing wanted pictures of one of the Hoods members, alongside James Earl Cash, can be found as an Easter Egg.
    • One of the many criminals found in the same game wears a leather vest resembling the one worn by one of the Hoods gang members.
    • In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, there is also an available Hood outfit that Victor Vance can wear. This implies the gang itself had been in existence as early as 1984.
  • Some of the Hoods members wear jackets that read "Furys", a probable reference to the 1979 film The Warriors. Ironically, this film was also adapted into a video game by Rockstar Games in 2005.
  • According to Starkweather, the Hoods own a van in the bonus scene Time 2 Die. In the same level, he also calls them cowards (which strongly implies from their dialogue when running away or knocked down).
  • The Red Kings gang in Manhunt 2 are similar to the Hoods and are likely inspired by them.
  • The Hoods appear in all bonus levels except Monkey See, Monkey Die.
  • Some of the Hoods members have the name of Duke or Mike, as heard from others of the gang.
  • Some of the members of the Hoods are among the youngest Hunters in the game, alongside the Innocentz.
  • A total of 30 Hoods exist in Manhunt. Cash kills 29 of them in the three scenes they are in and one of them was killed by the Innocentz. His corpse can be seen in View of Innocence, inside a bathroom.
  • The Hoods are the only Hunters in Manhunt who are never armed with firearms and use melee weapons only.
  • During development of the game, they were originally supposed to appear in the scrapyard scene where the Skinz roam in the final game.
